Rotherham Driveways

We've been installing driveways for well over a decade,  completing many Rotherham Driveways over the years. As we provide a wide range of driveway options we can help you in the decision and budget process to getting yourselves a new driveway which will look fantastic.

We cater for both residential and commercial customers although the bulk of our driveways in Rotherham have to transform the front of a property for many homeowners. We pride ourselves on our honest and transparent approach and can offer impartial advice on all the driveway options you have and can also help you where you have an additional drop kerb requirement linked to your new or extended driveway.

Depending on your budget you may be surprised at what driveway may be most suitable but also the shape and slope of your driveway may lend itself to one particular driveway style  over another as drainage can become an important factor when deciding on what material and finish to choose for a new driveway.

We have a very accommodating approach as we know that for certain driveways such as Indian paving or block paving there are many variations in the way that paving blocks can be laid so again we like to discuss the options with you so you can perhaps make your driveway more personalised and bespoke, without really adding much to the overall costs.

Rotherham Driveway Specialists

As mentioned, we don't try to influence or persuade our customers to choose one particular driveway style as we are equally happy to install block paving as we are tarmac - we focus on providing the Rotherham paving solution which is best for you.

The most important aspect for any driveway is the proper preparation of the ground to allow for adequate drainage but also to ensure that it is going to provide a solid and stable base for the top layer and you are not going to find your driveway sinking at some point in the future or indentations underneath your tyres where you are normally parked.

We are diligent in our approach and never take any shortcuts in ground preparation and getting your sub-base right so that our guarantees stand up. You don't want to be dealing with dips or cracks appearing in your new driveway and neither do we due to poor workmanship. We want to make a positive impact on peoples homes and our reputation is important to us.

Block Paving

Block Paving in Rotherham remains the number one choice for most driveways due to its price and versatility. You can have a block paving driveway using a number of different block options which allows for flexibility in price as well as in the different looks you can achieve.

Block paving is also quite a good choice for heavily used drives since if damage does occur from a heavy item being dropped from the back or a van or car any individual blocks, which may have been broken, can quite easily be replaced and without breaking the bank.

The versatility of block paving is also due to the many different sizes and colours the blocks can come in. They can be laid in different formats and using the same size bricks but in different colours you can create a totally unique driveway.

Resin Driveways Rotherham

Resin Driveways in Rotherham, are very sought after but are one of the most expensive driveway choices. Visually they look great and due to the wide choice of colour options you are sure to hit on a style you like. You will also be able to maintain good visuals and kerb appeal since resin will still allow rainwater to drain through so more than likely you will not need to install an additional drain to cater for rain water runaway. Whilst resin bound driveways and resin bonded driveways are often used in naming convention they are different in construction so always make sure you are comparing like for like quotes for a resin driveway.

Tarmac Driveways Rotherham

Whether you chose tarmac or asphalt there a now more colour options available, although black remains the most popular followed by red. Black has remained the most popular as it provides a background colour that can hide dirt and spills much more than lighter colours. Concrete Driveways Rotherham

If you are looking to get a concrete driveway in Rotherham  it is likely that you will be using your driveways for more heavy work. Whilst it is a popular choice for commercial premises, for domestic driveways which cater for trades people with commercial vehicles such as vans or small trucks which can weigh substantial amounts when fully laden, a concrete driveway is a smart choice. Granted it isn't the most aesthetic of options but if your driveway is going to take a bit of a bashing and has a practical purpose then damages are easy to patch repair and keep driveway repair costs down.

Imprinted Concrete Rotherham

Imprinted concrete driveways have been around for a number of years now and are visually quite stunning when new. As a result they do get spotted in passing and when one driveways has been done in patterned concrete on a road it won't be too long before a few more start cropping up. The sheen finish makes them very noticeable when newly laid and it does provide a striking low maintenance finish. Since there a re a wide variety of patterns which can be used and colour finishes it quite easy to find a colour and pattern combination you like which can include cobbles enabling you to have a modern driveway with a traditional feel.

Cobbled Driveways

The process of installing a cobbled driveway is very similar to block paving. In reality it is a form of block paving but in this instance the block is more of an irregular shape as apposed to perfectly regular rectangular blocks. The cobblestones you use for a driveway and be natural stone or synthetically created. We have even installed driveways using reclaimed cobbles. As a result the finish is more irregular than that of a block paving drive both in terms of how it looks and especially when driving over it. Unlike block paving the stones will not be uniform with sizes varying. this however can be used to good effect creating patterns and shapes with the cobbles such as circles and curves. This very traditional driveway has a special charm about and will complete a period property perfectly.

Paving Rotherham

There has been a real growth of paved driveways in Rotherham as for the rest of the UK. Leading the way is Indian stone which provides a competitively priced driveway which looks fantastic.

Whether you use one Indian stone colour throughout or a combination of colours and sizes you will  be able to have a fairly unique looking driveway which can show off your character and style or can simply match the character and style of your property. Whilst some people may worry that using larger paving stones will be more prone to cracking when used for a relatively flat drive with a good sub-base and ensuring you have chosen driveway grade paving stones you will have a great low maintenance driveway for a long time.

Patios Rotherham

Many of the same principles for laying a good driveway apply for laying garden paving or creating a patio. Whilst a patio won't be subjected to the same traffic a driveway would - namely cars driving on them, it is important to lay a patio on a good base, and to understand how rainwater will drain and run away.

Installing patios can provide some challenges which don't crop up as much as for driveways namely accessing the back garden. Depending on you side or back access this may limit what machinery can get to your back garden. Especially if you a re looking to change the levels of ground in your garden. However, we're always up for a challenge so if you have visions for you back garden and patio area we're on hand to listen and create the outdoor environment you've always dreamed of.

Frequently Asked Driveway Rotherham Questions

  • What driveway finish do you recommend?

We try to steer away from making any one particular recommendation as each different type of driveway may have particular merits for you. Often budget is one of the most important criteria and sometimes you may have initially thought you wanted one particular driveway type but realised that it may not provide all the other practical benefits you wanted. We will try to get a good understanding of how you intend to use your driveway and what you really want to achieve and then provide balanced points to help you make a decision that is best for your particular circumstances and budget.

  • What are permeable driveways?

A permeable driveway is one will which allow water to 'permeate' through it i.e. soak through and down rather than run across the surface.

From an environmental and practical perspective, most councils don't want to see large amounts of water running down roads and towards drains, which can clog and cause localised flooding. As a result, councils will favour the installation of more permeable driveways such as block paving, cobbled and resin-bound.

For tarmac and both standard concrete and patterned concrete, the requirement to install drains or 'soaks' to prevent this water from getting to public locations may end up adding to your installation costs.

  • What is a low maintenance driveway?

The maintenance a driveway will require will depend on how much you personally take pride in the visual appearance of your drive and the local of your driveway relative to other factors which can either speed up or slow down the rate at which your driveway needs reviving.

If your drive is in an open environment with few trees around and not next to a lawn or flower beds it will be less likely to be subjected to bird droppings, wet and rotting leaves and seeds falling on it which can take root or allow moss and algae to form. When new most driveways are low maintenance but after a year or two of being exposed to the elements you will notice a build-up of dirt and algae. A more regular maintenance routine can prevent major clean up but tarmac, resin and patterned concrete will be the easiest to keep clean. As long as block paving or cobbled driveways have a regular clean with an appropriate cleaner you can avoid pressure washer cleaning which can often accelerate the degradation of a driveway by dislodging jointing compounds and thereby creating environments for most and seeds to take hold.

  • Can patio slabs be re-laid on an existing base?

This will depend on the state and quality of your base and how slabs have been fixed to the base. Generally, if you are looking to remove an existing patio the removal process will take an amount of the sub-base with it. At Driveways Rotherham we will inspect the state of the sub-base and more often than not a topping up and re-setting of the base will enable a new patio to be laid. This approach will end up saving you some money however if during the removal of your existing patio we discover that a poor or in some cases, no sub base has been laid this will require the same approach as installing a brand new patio where the ground needs to be dug to a required level, a proper base is installed before finally laying your paving.

  • Can you lay block paving slabs to create a pattern or picture on a driveway?

Yes, we can. Clearly, we will need to agree on the design before work commences so we know the exact position and size of the pattern. It's not that unusual for patterns such as squares within squares of different coloured blocks to be laid to create a more interesting block paving design

  • What are the main differences between a resin driveway and block paving?

A resin driveway - more specifically a resin bound driveway will be a very low maintenance option as weeds and algae will find it difficult to take hold whereas block paving will need more regular cleaning with weed killer applied to prevent weeds and moss from forming in between brick. This isn't a big task is done regularly taking the approach of prevention rather than cure.

Block paving can be laid exactly as you want so you can create a unique design and mix bricks of different colours and should damage occur replacing bricks is much simpler than trying to patch prepare a resin driveway.

It was great to have someone to talk to about the ideas we had and what the respective pros and cons of each driveway type would be. What was even better was that the team were able to complete all driveway and landscaping works to the front of our house so we only had to use these guys who did a fantastic job.

John F

When we finally decided it was time to update our driveway we wanted something which would look great and improve the overall kerb appeal of our property. The Driveway Rotherham team did a great job installing a new resin driveway which they finished off in block paving which looks great.

Briain M

I had some reservations about going for an Indian paving driveway even though I liked the look it would give us but was worried about it's durability. I needn't have worried as I was given an explanation at each stage of construction and have complete confidence that our driveway will last a lifetime.
